CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency)

Posted on June 9, 2009 at 11:03:35 AM by Ron Bolin
My fiancee is 37 years old, 5 foot 3 inch tall, weighs 115lbs and fairly fit - she works at a job in the restaurant industry where she is in contact with a lot of people and is on her feet almost the entire day. She had pneumonia in early December 2008 where she was diagnosed with CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency) which is a genetically determined primary immune defect where a person doesn't produce sufficient antibodies (having low levels of serum immunoglobulins) in response to exposure to pathogens. As a result, that person's immune system fails to protect them against common bacterial and viral (and occasionally parasitic and protozoan) infections. The result is that the patient is susceptible to illness. More info on CVID: <http://www.immunedisease.com/patients-and-families/about-pi/types-of-pi/common-variable-immunodeficiency-cvid.html>

In this case, she gets a prescribed monthly treatment or infusion every 30 days of Baxter Antibody Therapy, an Immune Globulin Intravenous (IGIV) therapy: <http://www.baxter.com/therapies/sub/antibody_therapy.html> Aside from the monthly treatments, we care looking at exercise, diet and supplements as other ways to boost her immune system.

Currently, she gets easily run down and has lack of energy by the end of the day - she describes as aching all over or feeling run down. Her feet also ache which has to do with being on her feet all day. Right after the Immune Globulin Intravenous (IGIV) therapy, she feels she has more energy and stamina but as the month wears on, she feels less and less energetic and aches more. Rarely does she get sick, has colds or the flu - I suspect she is doing much better than most that are diagnosed with CVID. Mostly she says that she is achy, run down and has lack of energy.

Additionally, we live in New Orleans, LA (USA) and since Hurricane Katrina, I suspect there is a higher level of toxins (lead, mold spores, etc) floating in the air and surrounding us here than in most places.

We are looking at your Kenrico Detox Pads and would like to know what you recommend for her.
