Your doctor is correct in his diagnosis because recurrent night sweats are usually the body's attempt to fight off the effect of fever. Fever can be caused by infection such as cold, flu and other common illnesses.

Because he is underweight, there is also a possibility of malasorption. If he does not eat properly but instead consume a lot of snacks or sweets at night time, his body may not be able to absorb the necessary nutrients for his body to grow and for his body immune system to work properly.

Chronic and sporadic stress also can disrupt regular bowel movement and contribute to constipation. Low level stress and anxiety can suppress the gastrocolic reflex, a movement in gastrointestinal tract that precedes bowel movement.

In conclusion, we believe the symptoms of the night sweats that your son experiences are caused by low body immune system, malasorption and dehydration. These symptoms also put further stress to the body causing stress that contribute to constipation. Since he is very active during day time, dehydration is a concern. Drinking enough fluids is necessary. We recommend drinking 6-8 full glass of water during the day (3-4 full glass at school) and 1 glass of water before bed. If he does not consume enough water, you can also have him eat juicy foods such as chicken, tomato soup or even healthy cereals (limited sugar) with milk.

It is not necessary to undergo any blood tests.
