Volcanic ash may contain crystalline silica that can cause silicosis. Exposure to this siliceous dust in short period of time can cause a person to experience various eyes, nose and throat symptoms.
Unproductive cough comes from the reflex to clear breathing passages. Spasm indicates inflammation and possibly tissue damage to the lung if not treated promptly.
If you have to deal with pollution and volcanic ash over long period of time frequently, it is highly recommended to wear protective gears and continue the treatment that we recommended to prevent organ damages.
